wright. she has the latest on the traffic situation out there. >> good morning to you all. we are talking about loudoun county. before a serious crash that popped up on us along route 9 out at hamilton station road. we are told that the highway is blocked off in each direction. that is route 9 at hamilton station road currently closed because of an accident. for those that are traveling along northbound i-95 here in lorton, nice, easy commute continuing up towards the beltway. no problems to report on the beltway leading annandale to merrifield and you will fine that traveling at the wilson bridge, all lanes are open and traffic is running smoothly there. top side of beltway, the outer loop as you work your way around from 650 new hampshire avenue and continue to silver spring, light traffic volume there as well. you will find lanes are open coming southbound as you travel from 109 out towards the split. that's a check of your fox 5

on-time traffic. it appears the east coast will avoid the wrath of hurricane igor. the category one storm barely missed bermuda, making its way up the atlantic ocean away from the northeastern u.s. the storm pelted bermuda with rain and knocked out electricity in many parts of the island. forecasters say igor will continue to cause high surf and rip current as long the eastern seaboard. questions continue to swirl this morning about the detect a man in frederick, maryland. police were called to a home on south market street three times to break up a fight between a man and a woman. when officers arrived, they found an injured woman. she was transported to the hospital. they also found 28-year-old oliver cohen in a parking area. that is when the incident escalated. >> as they were trying to approach him to make contact with him, shots -- a shot was fired and the officer felt that he was in danger at that point and responded to that shot firing several rounds. >> reporter: police say the officer who fired at cohen is a

four-year veteran on the force. he has been placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigate. what was called into 911 as a fall has now been ruled a murder. a man is accused of killing his own wife. police received a call saturday that the wife of steven combs la fleur had fallen. when they arrived at the home, they realized she had been beaten. she died before she could be taken to the hospital. he is charged with first degree murder. for the first time in nearly 100 years, a woman is set to be executed into virginia. 41-year-old theresa lewis is scheduled to die by lethal injection at maximum security prison in jarrett on thursday. she pleaded guilty back in 2003 to two counts of capital murder for hire. her husband and stepson were the victims. our big story, world leaders coming together in new york for the annual general assembly of the united nations. stacy cohan joins us in the

going on here but take a look. there is your hurricane. hurricane igor, a little too close for comfort. luckily t won't make landfall anywhere along the east coast of the united states. as we reported a little while ago, we'll still see high tides and rip currents as a result of the hurricane as it continues to pull for the north-northeast now having gone through or across portions of the hurricane at least gone across bermuda and causing some damage there. all right. here is your forecast for washington for today. it's simple forecast. a few clouds this morning. a little bit breezy this morning as a front comes through. becoming mostly sunny today and a beautiful afternoon with a high around 80 degrees. that is close to normal. our average high for today is 78 degrees. then, for tonight, again, if you are going to be doing some star or planet gazing, mostly clear skies, cool temperatures, 54 degrees. just the way you want it to be out there as you are doing that. it looks like a quiet week for the most part with high temperatures for the most part above normal. in fact, downright hot

wednesday and thursday. upper 80s to around 90 degrees. right now, we don't have a chance of rain on the five-day. we could add a shower, maybe on wednesday or thursday, but right now it doesn't look like we'll able to do that but we'll keep our eyes open and see how things develop. that is a look at what is happening with the weather. now, lets get an update on traffic. for that, we go to julie wright. >> we're talking about the trip out to the west in loudoun county. right now, it is route nine that is tied up in east direction. we had the crash out at hamilton station road and as a result, the roadway is closed off in each direction between the berlin turnpike and clark's gap. no problems on 66 out of manassas. this is the beltway at route 4 pennsylvania avenue. light traffic volume in each direction as you travel to and from andrews. no problems reported at the wilson bridge. top side of the beltway behaving nicely between college park and bethesda. no problems reported headed for the beltway. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. we do have a reminder for

his doctors. >> thank you for fixing my heart. and i love being at the party. >> a lot of times we see them when they are sick and we don't see them later on when they grow up and are well. this is a way to celebrate in terms of how well they're doing. >> reporter: the doctors also invited a different kind of party guest to the party. the kids were thrilled to see dogs with heart problems of their own. >> some of the doak have heart tea fects. i think that is really cool. >> reporter: their parents say these kids tend to grow up too fast because they've had very grown-up surgery so it is nice to remember that i dog can sometimes bring out the little kid in all of us. tisha thompson, fox 5 news. >> daniel, youngster you just saw there, his mother says he has to have heart surgery every couple of years. >> he says he doesn't mind because they make sure they put

yesterday's high of about 85 degrees. here is a look at the satellite- radar. let me show you igor. not often we show you our local sat-rad and we see a hurricane in that image. it is offshore. not going to make landfall along the east coast of the united states but it is producing large swells, strong, high tides and rip currents along the east coast. it is recommendedded that people do not go out in the water and swim because of the dangerous conditions out there. the hurricane itself remains well offshore and is tracking to the northeast. a couple of clouds have come through with that fronted. more clouds up in the northwestern skies but for the most part, we'll see clear skies an lots of sunshine for today. so your forecast looks like this. a few early clouds becoming sunny, beautiful afternoon. 80degrees for your high. for your five-day forecast, tomorrow, sunny and 8 #. >> a great day.
